Just north of Eyemouth are the Lammemuir hills and the beautiful Whiteadder reservoir, favourite with many species of birds  and would be sailors, honing their skills before venturing out on the more turbulent waters of the North Sea.

Canada geese share the moors with grouse before the hunting season starts in earnest.

It is a good place too to spot brown hares, but not today, the only hare a dead one by the roadside. There is something curious about the pose, as if the hare, despite the broken bones, is on a journey somewhere. Nature morte or still life?
